Chapter 8

Ryu

STANDING BEFORE THE DOORS TO the female's quarters was the Kinokos princess. Barely concealed in the blanket she had no doubt pulled from his bed, Ryu's nostrils flared at the sign of the drakes around her. The contempt the drakes had for the female human before them was easily deciphered without having to delve into their heads. Tatoween, one of the guards Ryu had left to watch over the sleeping princess was the only one not thinking about the annoying disturbance the female was creating.

The princess herself stared down at the guards in wary confusion before those chestnut colored eyes flicked up and locked with Ryu’s. Her small hand tightened on the blanket around her slim shoulders, her large breasts barely contained within their confines even with the thin fabric of her night gown beneath. Ryu shoved the thought back. This was no time to be focusing on the strange attraction he had to the princess. Not when he had yet to get to the bottom of why she and her ladies maid had been in his forest.

"What's going on here?" Ryu commanded, stopping before the lot of them. The guard who had informed him of the princess's waking scurried up behind him but wisely kept silent.

None of the guards answered at first, then Tatoween slowly lifted his head. Hesitantly he slid his gaze up to Ryu's before dipping it back down to Ryu's chin. "Your majesty, our guest wishes to see her friend and insists she could not wait until your return. I brought her here as she requested. However..." his eyes flicked over at the two guards who stayed knelt on the ground.

The bluish one, Cadben, head jerked up at Tatoween's words, his eyes narrowed at the other drake. Jaw clenched, Cadben growled out, "It is against the law to allow anyone...regardless of who they are...into the female's quarters without the king's permission."

"As you are correct," Ryu shifted his attention from the drake's to the increasingly peeved princess. "I do believe we can make an exception for this instance." Making a decision, Ryu bobbed his head in Georgia’s direction. "Yes, I hereby declare that Georgia, the princess of Kinoko, may enter the females’ quarters whenever she likes without asking for permission."

Cadben’s mouth gaped and his thoughts gave away his need to protest. Ryu let out a warning growl at the drake, prompting him to immediately drop his head back down in prostration.

Crossing his arms with self-satisfaction, Ryu waited for the princess to cry out her happiness and praise him with adoration for helping her without asking for anything in return. That wasn't the case.

Georgia's eyes narrowed into slits, her lips twisted to one side, and her fingers tightened so tightly that Ryu could see her little hands shaking with what he had hoped would be unadulterated happiness...wishful thinking on his part.

Slipping into her mind was easier than anyone else's.

What in the ever loving goddesses do you think you are doing?

Ryu cocked his head to the side, his lips pursed tightly so his fang pinched into his flesh.
